The 2010 Hurricane Season officially began June 1st.

We don\'t know what this Hurricane Season may  hold for those of us living on vulnerable coasts, and Longboat Key is certainly in a prime location for a hurricane strike, so it is best to prepare a plan now.

We have been very fortunate in past years and have not been affected by a direct hurricane strike.  However, we cannot allow that to make us complacent in educating and preparing ourselves for this and every hurricane season.  It only takes one major storm, and we do not want to wish we had done all we could to prepare.

For the next 30 days, please take the time to familiarize yourself with information contained here on our website by clicking on the link below.  We think we have, in this website, provided excellent preparation details that will be instrumental in keeping you safe in the event we do experience a major storm event.

I, as Town Manager, all Town Officials and employees have educated ourselves with only one thought in mind, to keep you and your property as safe as possible during a storm or any major disaster; but you too have to do what you can to prepare yourselves.  That means having a hurricane kit with at least three days of water and food.  It means preparing your homes and those of relatives.  It means knowing the evacuation routes. This and much more information is available to you on the website.

Begin your preparations now and be safe!
