Using EMSO Pages

EMSO page editor not showing in Internet Explorer 7
Internet Explorer 7 has enhanced security features in place to protect browsing. This default security level however is blocking EMSO per default. When editing a page in EMSO and loading the EMSO editor, and you notice the editor is showing as a blank image like below, follow the simple instructions below.
Notice the information bar at the top of the page in the browser window "This Web site wants to run..":
Click this bar and choose to Run ActiveX Control:

A message will pop up asking whether you want to permit ActiveX control. Choose Run:

The page will reload, and the same process must be repeated. On second reload, the EMSO page editor will appear as normal.
My system is asking for the Microsoft Office 2000 CD when I want to add or edit a page. Why is that?
This is caused by an issue in the Microsoft Office installer, not properly installing 'HTML Source Editing' per default. To solve this problem for good, follow these few steps (depending on your initial installation of Microsoft Office, you may or may not need the CD to complete this solution):
- Click Start --> Settings --> Control Panel --> Add/Remove Programs
- Highlight Microsoft Office [Premium/Professional/Standard] in the list.
- Click Change (This will pop-up the Office Maintenance Window)
- Click either 'Modify' or 'Add or Remove' Features.
- Expand the Office Tools Directory.
- Click the down arrow next to HTML Source Editing.
- Select Run from My Computer.
- Click Update Now.
Otherwise you can just click 'cancel' to the pop-up installer window, the editor works perfectly either way.
Oops! I've messed up my page and saved it. How can I get back a previous version?
Just use our "page backup" feature.
Every time you save changes to an EMSO Page the previous version is saved in the Page History section, so if the new page doesn't turn out the way you'd like, you can restore an old one in just a matter of seconds. Go to your My Pages section and then click 'history' next to any page for more information.
Can I build my entire site in Edit My Site Online?
No. The EMSO Page editor is a text/graphics editor, not a full page editor and is designed for editing your content, not your layout or navigation (though it can be used for pieces of your navigation, such as a navigation bar).
While in some cases you may succeed in adding the entire page HTML, we don't recommend it.
The editor and our service is meant for body content only, not a replacement for authoring tools like Macromedia Dreamweaver, NetObjects Fusion or Microsoft Frontpage.
The page editor doesn't display, or I get an error saying editjs.cfm didn't load properly. Whats wrong?
Please make sure that:
1) Internet Explorer Security settings have "Safe for Scripting ActiveX Components" enabled. To check this setting, choose Tools/Internet Options. Click on the "Security" tab and make sure that your level is "Medium" (the recommended setting) or lower. If it's higher, the editor will not appear.
2) Make sure your computer isn't blocking traffic of any kind to and from editmysiteonline.com with a third party banner blocking software
If problems persist despite the above, please send us an email.
Is there a limit to how big (in K) a page can be?
63,000 characters or 60 KB (not counting images), which is roughly equivalent of a 17 page Word document. Should be more than enough!
Can I use Javascript in my EMSO Pages?
No. Any Javascript entered into the EMSO Page editor will be automatically filtered out.
You can, however, can create Javascript somewhere else on the web page where the EMSO content will appear and call functions from inside the EMSO Page.
Can I use CSS in my EMSO Pages?
You can manually add CSS class attributes to HTML tags through the HTML source tab. Currently there's no dialog interface for this.
How do I get rid of that 'This Web page is maintained with Edit My Site Online'?
Sign up for our paid service!
We add this to all free Edit My Site Online accounts to promote our service (that why it's free :).
Paid accounts do not have any mention of "Edit my site online" on the page. Want it gone? Upgrade your account.

|
Using EMSO Image Space

Why do my images look bad when resized within your editor?
When the EMSO Page editor resizes an image, it asks the browser to resize it. The browser, in turn, does a quick and dirty resize that can adversely affect the image quality.
The best way to resize a graphic is to use software such as Adobe Photoshop or Jasc Paint Shop Pro. These use advanced "resampling" techniques to resize the image cleanly--as well as make them faster and more efficient to view.
If you'd like a Web-based graphics-related service, we suggest Xara Online at www.zymodules.com.
Why are my images sometimes renamed to ACF16D.jpg or something similar when they're uploaded?
To avoid accidently overwriting an existing image in your account, we automatically rename images if the filename already exists in your account.
If you want to replace an existing image, delete the old one first, or this renaming will occur.

Subscriptions & Payments

What methods of payment do you accept?
We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, JCB and Diners Club creditcards.
I'm about to renew my subscription, but I'm confused, can you please explain your subscription billing system?
Sure! Say you signed up January 1st for 1 month for $100, and you renew your subscription for another $100 month on January 15th: First we deduct the remaining pre-paid days (-$50 in the above example) and then we add your new subscription (+$100), so your total would be $50 and your new expiration date would be February 15th. Everything is calculated automatically for you, so just select what you'd like and we'll figure out the rest.
How do I change my subscription if I want more (or fewer) pages or image space?
Log on to your My Services page. Go to the "My Account" section. Click the Change or Renew Subscription icon and complete the next few steps. The process automatically figures out if you should be getting money back or need to pay more. If you have any questions do not hesitate to send us an email.
How do I cancel my account?
Log on to My Services and go to your profile. At the bottom of the page you'll see a button called 'Cancel Account', this will take you through the cancelation process. If you have pre-paid your subscription and would like the unused pre-paid subscription fee back, don't forget to change your subscription BEFORE canceling your account. Send us an email if you have any questions.

Reseller FAQ

What are the users I create under my account allowed to do?
You specify what each individual user can do. Go to the "My Services" page, then scroll down to the user's profile you want to change. Click on "Edit Profile." At the bottom of this page you'll see a series of check boxes that let you specify what you want the user to be able to do.
We highly recommend that you add yourself as a user with a separate email address and try it out as an end user, so you're prepared for any questions your clients may have.
We also suggest you spend a few minutes reading the reseller tutorials in the support section.
Where do I tell my users to login to access the account I've setup?
Simply point them directly to the My Services page located at http://www.editmysiteonline.com/login. If the user isn't logged in, they'll see the login screen, which leads them directly to their account.
What happens to my users EMSO Pages and Image Space if my subscription expires or I cancel my account?
Your users are part of subscription, so if your subscription expires, so will theirs. The same applies if you cancel your account--their pages and images are permanently removed.
If you intend to cancel your account and you users who've created pages, simply tell them to contact us if they would like to continue their subscription. We can transfer all their content to a separate account or accounts.
How much can I charge for your service?
As much as you want. Keep in mind that your clients can visit this Web site just as you did and can see what your paying.
Of course, you are adding value to the service by building their site and placing the EMSO codes on it, and by continuing to add new pages to their site when they need them, so it's normal for you to add your normal overhead fee to the service.
I uploaded some images to my reseller account, but I want some of my clients access to one or more images, how do I do that?
Each user's image space is private, it's not shared with the other users.
The only way a user can select an image is if either you or they upload it to their space.
You can, however, host the images on your own web space and/or in your image space, then
point to them using an <img> tag in the HTML source, like this:
- In a page under your account (or on your own server), insert the image you'd like to share.
- View the HTML source and copy the <img> tag for the corresponding image
- Insert this <img> tag into the HTML source of the client EMSO Page where you'd like the image to show up
As you can see its not pretty, which is why we just recommend you upload the image to the account where it's needed.
I need to remove one of my users. What's the procedure for this?
Go to your "My Services" page.
Scroll down to their Profile. Click the 'delete user' at the bottom of the page, and follow the steps.
Your user's pages and images are automatically deleted. The pages and image space you assigned to them will be added to your total as if they never existed.
Because pages and images are deleted when you remove a user, you don't want to do this if you simply want to change the person who has access to those pages and images.
If you just want a different person to access a previous user's pages and image space, go into their user profile and change the email address and password. Then the new user can access those pages and images, but the old one can't.
